We understand that there is good reason to be a cautious shopper. CBD products are largely unregulated in the U.S. market. Independent testing has shown mislabeling and lack of quality control. The biggest issues are strength of CBD (significantly more or less than the label says), the presence of undeclared THC, and contamination with pesticides, metals and solvents. CBD Naturals (by Gritz n Glitz) proudly sources its 99.7% pure isolate from a well-known and respected US farm in Deming, New Mexico.
If you’ve never tried CBD products, you probably have some questions, and we’re going to try to answer some of those here:
What is CBD?
- CBD, short for cannabidiol (pronounced ca-nuh-bi-DYE-ol), is an active compound found in the cannabis plant--CBD isolate is not intoxicating.
What is CBD Isolate?
- CBD Isolate derives in the largest quantity from the hemp plant and is processed into a white powdered state. Ours is 99% pure CBD or greater. The process to become isolate eliminates the remaining cannabinoids and plant matter, as well as any flavonoids or terpenes that may be present. CBD isolate is unadulterated CBD, completely free of any undesirable chemicals and compounds.
How do CBD topicals work?
- Well, to start with, the human body contains an Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This is a complex, cell-signaling, network of neurotransmitters, or chemical messengers, and cannabinoid receptors in the human body, and when CBD is applied topically, it activates the endocannabinoid system through those receptors. CBD binds to the cannabinoid receptors in your epidermal and dermal skin layers, a process that is thought to result in alleviation of pain and inflammation, among many other things.
- Topical CBD works where you use it. CBD Lotion is recommended for wider applications; for example, if you tend to experience full-body soreness, say after a workout, we recommend our CBD Lotion. However, if you have chronic pain in your lower back or your neck, CBD Balm is your best bet because it's more concentrated.
- How fast does CBD Balm work? Effects may be felt immediately to within 30 minutes. Each body is different so you need to try it for yourself.
Info on CBD
- A 2017 review notes that CBD products have fewer side effects than other drugs that doctors use to treat the same conditions.
- A 2019 study indicates a link between CBD and reduced chronic pain. In the study, 94% of participants experienced improvements in their quality of life. Additionally, a 2015 review notes that CBD may also have anti-inflammatory properties.
- A 2020 randomized controlled trial suggests that topical CBD may provide pain relief for people with peripheral neuropathy. Researchers found that CBD can significantly reduce intense pain, sharp pain, itchy sensations, and cold.
- Other research also suggests that topical CBD may be useful for treating joint and muscle pain associated with other conditions, from arthritis to migraine.
- Topical CBD may also benefit certain skin disorders. A 2019 study suggests that CBD ointment is a safe and effective treatment for those with inflammatory skin conditions.
- The American Academy of Dermatology also notes that topical CBD may be a useful treatment for acne, psoriasis, and eczema due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Is CBD legal?
- The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana vs. hemp in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3 percent THC federally legal in all 50 states.
Facts
- Human skin is incredibly absorptive, as a matter of a fact, your skin will absorb at least 5 pounds of product every year, so why wouldn’t you choose natural products over gross, often dangerous, synthetic ones? Also, you should always check the ingredients label to make sure you're not applying something you're allergic to or something that, if absorbed, can interact with medications. If you're unsure, talk to your doctor.
- What’s the difference between balms and other topical products, such as cream? Typically, the primary difference is that balms contain the highest oil content at roughly 80% oil. This means they do not evaporate, ensuring maximum product absorption.
- There are three types of CBD, each containing different compounds and concentrations:
Isolate: Contains CBD in its purest form, with no other cannabinoids or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). (available NOW!)
Broad Spectrum: Contains a range of naturally occurring compounds from the cannabis plant, but no THC
Full Spectrum: Contains all parts of the cannabis plant including up to .3% THC (available NOW!)
